In September 2015, I decided to go discover the Great Barrier Reef, after reading about its slow death in multiple articles- a reef responsible for the very oxygen we breathe. Starting at Cairns I slowly made my way down to the Whitsunday Islands, discovering significant corners of the World's largest coral reef system. I had several opportunities to document, understand, and in a way, connect with the diverse range of life this vast ecosystem had to offer. Yet even after seeing such divine beauty, through snorkelling, tour guides and even flights directly above the most intricate coral structures... the idea of death and destruction, tainted my understanding of the reef. There were many great documentations of marine life, many awesome shots, yet this one, simple shot appealed to me the most. It reminded me of our intervention and obstruction of marine life, and the impact it has towards the greater 'global ecosystem'.

UK Pavillion- Shanghai Expo 2010 (Seed Cathedral)

Part of the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, a 9-member British governmental conglomeration, decided to enter the expo with an idea that was sculptural yet dynamic and Architecturally unique. Directed by Thomas Heatherwick, the 'Seed Cathedral' is an example of how nature can be integrated into Architecture, to present new functional properties whilst remaining aesthetically expressive. The team was funded with only half the budget of other Western competitors. Heatherwick seeked uniqueness from the traditional large scale museums achieved by other nations. He narrowed his idea to a single point, with a focus that was inspired by seeds. Such seeds were examples of how plant life has given birth to the extraction of necessary medicine, as well as economies that today, thrive on Agriculture. It was an exhibition that displayed life itself. Despite the small budget, the team decided to grow 250000 seeds into single strands through optic fibre. The result, a dynamic interchange of light throughout the building as well as an organism that moved and breathed in it's setting. The hair-like strands would sway slowly in the presence of wind, attaining a life-like quality, as well as a refractive property that was aesthetically pleasing.

My Creative Work- VA Body Of Work: "Anatomy of Potential"

This is my Visual Arts HSC Body of Work, taking an interest in Athleticism and the beauty of Biomechanics.
"The Anatomy of Potential“ seeks to explore the sublimity of my own personal experiences of Athletic pursuit. It is a demonstration of my growing awareness of the human body’s precision as a biomechanical instrument. The subject is based upon a female colleague- a long jumper, whose diligence and progress, acknowledges the incredible potential of human Athleticism. Thus, the works are snapshots, impresions, captured moments in heat of training. The multiple frames of the work and its subject matter, seeks to contain the singular, sublime moment of action- the leap: as a result of untold hours of practice."
